Socialising
The only people I know here are people I'd rather not talk to. I am pretending not to have seen them. This would be a more convincing ploy if I hadn't conversed with one of them already...

Thank you, I just had to check when I last saw you and whether it was on the fifth.
You could just deploy something Maggie Smith-ish, like "difficult colour, X", or even better "what awful lighting they must have in here". That or simply be too enthusiastic.
